Today marks the 32nd anniversary of the tragic death of Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici, the symbols of national rebirth, who dedicated themselves to promoting the Romanian culture and language on both banks of the Prut. A commemorative event organized by the Chisinau City Hall was held in the "Requiem of Love" square in Chisinau, with the participation of the Teodorovici family and cultural personalities, IPN reports.

The program included recitals by "Doina" Academic Choir Chapel and "Lia-Ciocarlia" Choir, and laying of flowers at the sculpture "Two Twin Hearts", dedicated to Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici.

Cristofor Aldea-Teodorovici, the son of the two artists, shared with the audience thoughts and memories of his parents. "First of all, my heart is happy because every year we can gather here and remember my parents, Ion and Doina, whom God gave me. It is a blessing to gather here every year, but also a pain, but I want to carry on the flame of Romanianism that my parents kindled," said Cristofor Aldea-Teodorovici.

"Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici are an example of patriotism, who left us as a legacy memorable songs: love and patriotic, about nation and language. Ion and Doina's songs have educated generations of children and are currently performed at most of the public events staged. The works of the great artists who passed away define us," said mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban.

Present at the event, deputy mayor Angela Kutasevich spoke about the legacy left by the symbolic artists: "Ion and Doina Aldea Teodorovici gave us values and ideals that we have the duty to preserve and pass on. Through their creation, they inspired us to fight for identity and freedom, and we are responsible for keeping this flame alive," pointed out Angela Kutasevich.

The president of the Musicians' Union Svetlana Bivol praised the artistic talent and impact of the two artists: "32 years have passed, but it seems that it happened yesterday. I remember very well that sad day, that shocking news, which simply stunned us all. A news that shook us. On the day we bid farewell to them, the Great National Assembly Square was a sea of grieving people. Ion and Doina's creation was a manifesto for freedom and national identity, and their music continues to inspire whole generations," said Svetlana Bivol.

Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici died in a tragic road accident in Romania on October 30, 1992.
