Holocaust Remembrance Week to be held in Chisinau

A Holocaust Remembrance Week will take place in Chisinau during January 22-31. Activities will be held to raise awareness, especially among young people, of the tragedy of the Holocaust, in the context of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day marked on January 27. On Monday, a solemn moment of silence will be observed in schools, the Chisinau City Hall said in a press release.

The goal, according to the City Hall, is to promote interethnic tolerance, intercultural dialogue and fight against racism, anti-Semitism and other forms of intolerance. In educational institutions, libraries, museums and youth centers in Chisinau there will be a series of activities aimed at bringing attention to these values and commemorating the victims of the Holocaust.

The agenda includes thematic conferences, round tables, public screening of documentary films followed by discussions, essay contests, book presentations, exhibitions of drawings and photographs, information sessions, public reading sessions in educational institutions and libraries, trips to the Monument to the Victims of the Jewish Ghetto, the History Museum of the City of Chisinau

A public lecture titled “Aspects of local history of the Holocaust in Bessarabia”, held by Roman Rabinovici, PhD of history, in partnership with the Jewish Community of Moldova, will be hosted by the Chisinau City History Museum on January 24.

The Orion Culture Center will host an exhibition of photographs and documents titled “Millions of Souls” during January 25-28. Also here, on January 26, there will be a screening of the movie “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas”.
