The Holocaust Remembrance Week is celebrated in Moldova with activities that are aimed at raising the young people’s awareness of prejudice and injustice, at promoting interethnic tolerance and at fighting racism, anti-Semitism and other forms of intolerance, IPN reports.
During January 25-31, there will be shown thematic films and staged exhibitions, book presentations and roundtable meetings. There will also be issued an informative bulletin titled “Holocaust, sad pages from humanity’s history”.
On the last day of the event, on January 31, flowers will be laid at the Jewish Cemetery in Bender and at the memorial plaque from near the place where Jews were shot dead during World War II, near the Fortress of Bender.
The Holocaust Remembrance Day is annually marked in Moldova on January 27. The events are organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the Agency for Interethnic Relations in partnership with the Jewish Community in Moldova.
Approximately 6 million Jews of all ages, mostly from Europe, were killed during the Holocaust. There were over 1.5 million children among the victims.
