The number of hoax bomb scares increased considerably at the beginning of this year. According to press officer of the Chisinau Police Division Natalia Stati, seven bomb hoaxes were recorded in January 2016, as opposed to ten hoax bomb threats throughout 2015, IPN reports.
According to Natalia Stati, seven persons of the ten that misled the police about bomb placement last year were identified and detained. “In the other cases, the investigations go on and all the measures are being taken to identify the wrongdoers,” she stated.
Only the author of one of the seven bomb hoaxes of this year has been identified. This is the man who informed the police about the placement of a bomb at a restaurant. The court is to decide the punishment for this. Bomb hoax carries a maximum fine of 10,000 lei and a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment.
The last hoax bomb threats were experienced by two Chisinau-based banks on January 29.
