The history of Hancu Monastery from 1677 until present is described in the second book dedicated to religious institutions that was issued after the 1990s. The volume was compiled by Doctor Habilitate of History Alexei Agachi and depicts life in the monastery, mainly in the Communist period, when the monks were persecuted and the monastery was closed, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The religious institutions in the totalitarian period were ignored. Until 1990, there was printed no book featuring them. After academician Andrei Esanu wrote the History of Capriana Monastery, I decided to focus on the history of Hancu Monastery,” Alexei Agachi told a news conference. The book was published in Romanian, but includes small summaries translated into French and Russian and a chapter in English. The book was issued with the support of the National Association of Young Historians of Moldova, several companies and colleagues of the author. The book was printed in 500 copies. A large part of them will be donated to high schools and libraries.
