Historians protest against re-sovietization of education

The Leading Committee of the Historians’ Association from the R. of Moldova (AIM) invites teachers, parents, students, political parties of national and democratic orientation, NGOs, scientific and cultural associations to reprove the actions of the communist government intended to re-sovietize the education. According to AIM, the City Hall authorized the protest meeting against the introduction of integrated history textbooks in the educational institutions. The event is scheduled for November 9, 13:30-15:30, in the square of the Opera House, although, the request solicited that the protest lasts 3 days. Within the frameworks of the protest meeting, organizers intend to firmly reject the textbooks of integrated history, which have a communist character. They are also to make their choice for the promotion of the scientific truth concerning the people’s history, language, and culture. AIM considers that by introducing Stalinist false in education, government makes an attempt on the national conscience, profanes national values and condemns future generations to spiritual poverty. AIM says that via participating in the protest actions, the citizens of the R. of Moldova will contribute to the rejection of the false and lies from education and to the victory of the scientific truth about the R. of Moldova and its people, will assure Moldova a stable, prosper future along with other European states, and will provide the right to a correct education and a quality instruction for the young generation. More than 2,000 members of AIM assert that integrated history textbooks, drafted under government command, reflect an anti-Romanian doctrine, which is unscientific, anti-democratic and anti-European. Moreover, the textbooks, especially those for the 9th grade, have important lacks generated by the official ideology of the state, imposed by the government party. The textbooks praise the soviet period and its leaders, forgetting completely about the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova.
