The Parliament has raised the punishment for taking game in forbidden areas. The fines in minimum wages, paid until now for poaching, were replaced by taxes in conventional units. The Parliament amended the Law on Fauna.
According to minister of ecology and natural resources Constantin Mihailescu, the need to change the fines as result of the calculated damage due to poaching actions cannot be compared with the impact caused by the disappearance of certain animal species and the costs of their re-introduction in the country.
At the same time, the minister mentioned that at present, in certain cases the amount of the calculated damage is lower than the cost of the license for hunting. For instance, the fine for illegally hunting a wild boar is of MDL 900, while the license costs MDL 1,000.
The procedure of using hunting resources was also amended, by delegating the competences of concluding contracts to local authorities of I level.
