The single childbirth benefit will be equal to the money value of the minimum basket of essentials, which is now 5,300 lei. Starting with next year, this will be standardized and increased by 2,200 on the birth of the first child and by 1,900 lei on the birth of the next children. A relevant bill on social welfare for children was approved by the Cabinet on December 7, IPN reports.
Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Silvia Grigoras said this allowance covers the minimum costs for purchasing the bed, clothes, hygiene products and other things needed by newborns.
The bill also envisions the provision of a new type of benefit for twins or more children born at the same time to the same mother up to the age of three. This will be 270 lei a month for each child.
The monthly child benefit in the case of socially uninsured persons will be provided up to the child’s age of two, which is by six months longer than now.
The children who temporarily remained without parental care and are under guardianship will be entitled to a monthly allowance.
