The students of agrarian, teacher-training and medical faculties receive a bonus of 20% to the award, while the last-year students of these faculties a double supplement. The awards of the last-year students of the other faculties are by 20% higher, Deputy Minister of Education Loretta Handrabura has told Info-Prim Neo. “Until the start of 2013, the awards in universities were 655 lei for the first category, 550 lei for the second category, and 510 lei for the third category, while the social award was 285 lei. From January 1, the awards are by 20% and 40%. It is an approach showing that these three sectors – agriculture, education, and medicine – are of major importance to the country’s economy. Thus, we support the students studying at these faculties. The students of the other faculties will benefit from a 20% bonus only in the last year of study,” said Loretta Handrabura. The Government allocated about 33 million lei in 2013 for paying award bonuses. “Depending on the economic growth, more supplements or bonuses may be provided in the future,” said the official. As many as 20,400 students this year will graduate from universities, while 5,800 students from colleges. 70% of them receive awards.
