The strong winds of May 18 destroyed a part of the roof of the secondary school in Băhrinești village of Florești district. The rainwater flooded a part of the roof space and basement of the school and rescuers were called out to pump the water out.
Contacted by IPN for details, the mayor of Băhrinești Victor Kovalenko said that about 40 roof slates were damaged and the water inundated a part of the roof space. The ceilings of classrooms weren’t affected. The extent of damage and the costs associated with repair works are yet to be assessed.
The mayor noted a number of roads covered with gravel were destroyed as a result of the torrential rain. At least three persons whose yards were flooded asked for the rescuers’ assistance. In one case, the rainwater inundated a house.
The State Hydrometeorological Service for May 19 forecast precipitation and high winds of up to 15-20 m/s. In this connection, the Inspectorate warns the owners and managers of ponds to examine the levees and calls on those who look after minors to supervise them and not to allow them to go to rivers and lakes. In emergencies, one can call the 112 Service.
