The President of the European Commission is on a working visit to Chisinau. A briefing by Ursula von der Leyen and President Maia Sandu was scheduled to take place at the State Residence at 11:00 a.m. The President’s Office of the Republic of Moldova previously announced that “the visit by the head of the European Commission underlines the closer relationship between Chisinau and Brussels”, but did not elaborate on the communicated issues.
Last week, RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service, citing sources in Brussels, said that the European Union could provide Moldova with €1.8 billion in assistance for the next three years and this financial support is to be officially announced by Ursula von der Leyen during her visit to Chisinau.
The Republic of Moldova was granted the EU candidate status in June 2022 and a year later, in June this year, accession negotiations were officially opened.
