Moldova will be visited by a high-ranking delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on July 22-24. The delegation will meet with Moldovan officials, including President Nicolae Timofti, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar, and National Bank governor Dorin Dragutanu, IPN reports.

The delegation will be headed by the executive director for Turkey, Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia Oliver Descamps. He will be accompanied by the director for Caucasus, Moldova and Belarus Bruno Balvanera. During the visit, Oliver Descamps and Iurie Leanca will announce the creation of the Economic Council under the Premier. The consultative body that will be chaired by the Premier will facilitate the dialogue between the business community and decision makers with a view to creating a favorable business environment.

Before the visit to Moldova, Oliver Descamps said that Moldova needs more local and foreign investments that would generate workplaces to support the economic growth. The EBRD is ready to support authorities’ efforts to create better conditions for developing businesses in the country with recommendations, expertise and funds. The visit is paid before the planned review of the EBRD’s strategy for Moldova for the next three years.

The EBRD is one of the largest investors in Moldova. Since it started work in 1994, the bank has implemented 100 investment projects to the value of €897 million.
