The bilateral strategic dialogue, the November 30 parliamentary elections and the regional challenges were the subjects discussed by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and U.S. Vice President Joe Biden in a telephone talk, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.
“Washington permanently helped us, by numerous programs designed for young people and professionals of different ranks and from different areas of activity, to learn the rules of democracy and to establish the rule of law. We also benefited from U.S. assistance in dealing with economic, social and infrastructure-related problems in Moldova, including in implementing large-scale national projects such as the repair or roads and the provision of modern equipment to state institutions,” said the Premier.
Iurie Leanca informed Joe Biden that the 93 km long Sarateni-Soroca road, which was reconstructed within the Compact program with the contributions of the American people, will be officially opened today, October 16. US$100 million of the US$262 million Compact was allocated for rehabilitating this road.
As to the November 30 legislative elections, the Prime Minister expressed his confidence that Moldova will maintain the European integration course, which is the only one that proved its efficiency in establishing the rule of law and ensuring prosperity.
Joe Biden encouraged the Moldovan authorities to continue the efforts made to transform the state institutions and society in general. He voiced hope that the elections will be free and fair and Moldova will again show itself to be a state that shares the democratic values.
Iurie Leanca and Joe Biden met the last time on March 3 in Washington, at a meeting that was also attended by U.S. President Barak Obama.
