President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, in his speech delivered in Chisinau, said there is a lot of misinformation in Moldova and they even tell outrageous lies about the Association Agreement with the EU. The official dispelled before the crowd several of the myths persisting in Moldovan society, IPN reports.

“Some say that when Moldova signs the Association Agreement withy the EU, it will be urged to adopt Catholicism. But there are millions of Orthodox people in the EU. The European Union is very diverse. The association with the EU will not modify the identity or the lifestyle of the Moldovans,” stated Herman Van Rompuy.

He also said that some of the states often missed good opportunities owing to misinformation, including in an electoral year, as it is now in Moldova. Moldova has a lot of possibilities of adopting the EU standards. When the Association Agreement is signed, new markets will open for the Moldovan goods.

Herman Van Rompuy noted that the EU will continue to support Moldova technically and financially The Association Agreement does not provide taking decisions with which Moldova does not agree. “This accord is a positive document. It’s not an intruder in the relations between Moldova and other its partners,” he stated.

The official said that Moldova is facing challenges to its security, but the people should not become victims of those who want to divide the country and to manage it. “Moldova is diverse and we support the country’s territorial integrity. If you remain united you can achieve the set objectives,” he concluded.

The President of the European Council announced today in Chisinau that the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU will be signed on June 27.
