Heart diseases cause more than half of deaths in Moldova

In the Republic of Moldova, almost 60% of the deaths are due to heart diseases. As many as 37,200 persons died in Moldova last year, by 432 more than in 2017, IPN has learned from the National Bureau of Statistics.

Malignant tumors caused 16.5% of the deaths, while the digestive system diseases – over 9%. About 6% of the deaths were due to accidents, poisoning and traumas.

Territorially, the deaths caused by circulatory system diseases dominated in northern Moldova. Those that were due to malignant tumors prevailed in the municipality of Chisinau and ATU Gagauzia. Digestive system diseases caused most of the deaths in the central districts of the country, while respiratory system diseases – in southern Moldova.
