The hearing to try the case of former Prime Minister Vlad Filat, scheduled for January 15, was postponed. According to prosecutor Adriana Betisor, the hearing was put off because the case was sent to the Appeals Court, which is to examine the defense’s appeal against the decision to extend the period of custody for the politician, IPN reports.
Vlad Filat’s lawyer Igor Popa has told IPN that the defense’s appeal will be examined on January 19. The Buiucani Court extended the period during which Vlad Filat will be in custody for 90 days on January 5.
The case of Vlad Filat was sent to court on December 23, 2015. He is accused of taking 800 million lei bribe.
The politician was arrested last October on charges of traffic of influence and passive corruption. He faces 7 to 15 years in jail and ban on holding particular public posts.
