According to Prime Minister Ion Chicu, the healthcare system is much better prepared for an eventual second wave of COVID-19 in autumn, including in terms of the preparedness of medical personnel, IPN reports.
In a news conference, the official said the epidemiological situation is managed appropriately and the risk existing at the start of April no longer persists. Even if the figures go up, this is due to the gradual relaxation of restrictions, such as resumption of retail trade and return of public sector employees to work.
Ion Chicu noted that compared with other states, the situation in Moldova is not the worst. This is due both to the doctors and to the citizens who complied with the restrictions and stayed at home.
In the eventuality of a new wave of COVID-19 coming, an additional fund of 300 million lei was earmarked when the state budget was amended. Test kits and equipment have been stored.
The state of emergency in Moldova lasted from March 17 until May 19. A public health emergency was declared for the period between May 16 and June 30.
Over 6,300 infections with COVID-19 have been confirmed in Moldova so far. The death toll from the novel coronavirus stands at 221.
