The Ministry of Health has announced it will review the list of foods whose sale is prohibited within a 100 meters range from schools, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Svetlana Cotelea, department head at the Ministry, told reporters on Tuesday the decision comes after objections from vendors. “At meetings that followed after the adoption of this law, we agreed to make minor amendments. For example, the new provisions will limit the daily intake amounts recommended for children”, said Svetlana Cotelea. This means that some foods which were initially banned could be sold only in limited amounts.
Svetlana Cotelea stressed that the law wasn't meant to affect the business of vendors, but to protect children from unsafe foods.
Earlier today, a group of vendors that own outlets near schools warned they would stage protests unless the measure was reviewed.
