After a group of moms’ group protested yesterday against what they claim to be a common practice in the Moldovan health care system of overusing antibiotic treatment, while also complaining about how doctors communicate with their patients, the Ministry of Health today invited representatives from the group to join an official task force.

The group will be in charge of reviewing the National Pediatrics and Neonatology Protocols, which will be supplemented to include doctor-patient communication guidelines.

Further, mothers will work together with specialists to develop policies for controlling antimicrobial resistance. Another suggestion is that mothers do volunteer work in children’s hospital to provide emotional support and signal any issues.

“I believe that only by concerted effort can we change things in the system. I am asking and recommending you to signal any case where you think your rights have been violated or whenever you are dissatisfied with the quality of the medical care received. We will examine every case to prevent them from happening in the future”, State Secretary Rodica Scutelnic was quoted by a Ministry of Health press release as saying.

The moms’ group is now expected to delegate representatives to the task force.
