About 10,000 cases of acute diarrheic diseases are recorded in Moldova every year. The children are the most vulnerable to such diseases. A campaign to inform about the prophylaxis of acute diarrheic diseases, food poisonings and cholera will be carried out in Moldova this month, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a communiqué, the Ministry of Health says that the children are involved in over 70% of the cases of diarrheic diseases. The food products and contaminated water are the major sources of infection. The non-observance of the rules of preparing and serving food leads to outbreaks of diarrhea epidemics every year. The symptoms of acute diarrheic diseases include fever of up to 400C, stomachaches, nausea and vomiting, watery stools that occur up to 20-30 times a day, general weakness, cephalea, etc. In some of the diarrhea sufferers, especially children younger than one, the disease can develop and cause severe dehydration, blood infection and, consequently, toxic-infectious shock. One should appeal to the doctor immediately after the appearance of the clinical signs. Self-treatment is not recommended, especially in the case of children. The acute diarrheic diseases can be prevented by washing hands, avoiding eating food products with the expired shelf life or kept in inappropriate conditions, washing thoroughly the raw foods. It is recommended to cook the fruit and vegetables and keep the prepared food in the fridge at minus 4°C and lower.
