The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection anticipates that the number of persons suspected of being infected with the novel coronavirus will increase given the large number of people who returned from Italy, IPN reports.
In a news conference, Minister of Health Viorica Dumbrăveanu said there is that flow of persons who returned from Italy, but also a group of people who had been in contact with those who returned.
“But the people should know that the healthcare system is ready to cope. We have strategic institutions, including in reserve, which will be engaged if the number of infected persons rises at “Toma Ciorbă” Hospital. These institutions are prepared. There are medical personnel that will be mobilized if necessary, if there are more infected people. We have medical equipment for all the strategic health facilities,” stated the official.
According to her, there is medical protective equipment that hasn’t been yet used and there are sufficient essential antiviral medicines. It is important to respect the self-isolation regime, to monitor the state of health and to call by phone the family doctor or the 112 service, if need be.
Sergiu Vasilița, director of the Infectious Diseases Hospital “Toma Ciorbă”, said the number of patients suspected of being infected with COVID-19 rose in the afternoon of March 12. These are persons from districts. They have now 27 persons suspected of being infected at the hospital. The samples taken from them are being examined. Five of the six patients diagnosed with the novel coronavirus are now at “Toma Ciorbă” Hospital and their state of health is satisfactory. The state of only one of the patients is medium grave.
Also, two mothers and ten children are waiting for the results of lab tests for the coronavirus at the Municipal Children’s Infectious Diseases Hospital.
According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, 125,500 cases of infection with COVID-19 have been confirmed worldwide by March 12. The death toll rose to 4,617.
Six cases of infection with COVID-19 have been confirmed in Moldova so far.
