The people who came together in front of the Parliament Building on January 21 went on a march to the head office of the telecoms carrier SA “Moldtelecom”. There, the protesters expressed their indignation at the fact that the transmission of Jurnal TV channel, which broadcasts live the protests, was halted in the evening of January 20 and demanded that the transmission should be restored, IPN reports.
During the protest, a group of leaders of the protesters, who are members of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”, had a meeting with the company’s administration, which promised that the transmission will be resumed by the evening of January 21.
The event involved the leaders of the Party of Socialists and “Our Party” Igor Dodon and Renato Usatyi. Usatyi said that SA “Moldtelecom” blocked the transmission not only of Jurnal TV, but also of Accent TV channel. “The national telecoms carrier must stop blocking the inconvenient TV channels,” he stated.
According to a press release of SA “Moldtelecom”, technical faults were experienced in the evening of January 20 and the transmission of a number of TV channels was halted. Preliminary examinations showed the company became the target of a cyber attack similar to the attacks witnessed by a number of state institutions in the corresponding period of 2015.
The company said it is in the process of identifying solutions for fixing the problems and restoring the transmission and will inform the competent law enforcement bodies about this incident.
