President Igor Dodon is against the Democratic Party’s initiative to introduce the uninominal voting system for electing MPs and is for keeping the current electoral system, IPN reports.
In an enlarged-format meeting with the press on March 28, Igor Dodon said the Democrats’ initiative now does not enjoy majority support in Parliament. Thus, the best variant is to keep the current electoral system that needs yet to be improved as regards voting in the diaspora and in the Transnistrian region.
The President noted yet that if the Democrats manage to convince their colleagues in Parliament, he will block the initiative. He will also become involved to prevent the destruction of the party-based electoral system.
