President Nicolae Timofti addressed a message to the Moldovan people by which he calls on them to vote for the pro-European parties. The message was broadcast by the public TV channel “Moldova 1”, IPN reports.
The head of state urges the people no to yield to the manipulations of forces whose goal is to keep Moldova kneeling, in a permanent state of poverty and insecurity.
In his speech to the nation, Nicolae Timofti says the country’s fate depends on the November 30 vote: “It is important to understand a simple, fundamental thing – our future and the future of our children and grandchildren depend on how we vote on November 30. The country’s destiny is decided now.”
In order to be more convincing, the head of state reminded about the three European integration opportunities that our state has had. “We had the first chance in 1991-1993, while the second in 1998-2000. We didn’t take them and voted for the anti-European forces. We paid for those decisions. The country and the people became poorer and many of them went abroad to look for a better life. Moldova lagged behind the states of the former Socialist camp, which chose the path to development and joined the EU. We now also have this chance that is offered to us the third time. It is our duty to fulfill our civic mission. Europe supports us politically, financially and economically. We must also confirm our adherence to the European course and be consistent. We should overcome the momentary dissatisfaction and be united in the face of those who want to do only good things in Moldova,” he stated.
Nicolae Timofti criticized the pro-Russian parties for using the election campaign to manipulate the people so that the country deviates from the European course. “There are election runners that want the country to return to the vague and poor past from which we detached ourselves with great difficulty and with major human sacrifices,” he said, adding that these persons and parties, financed from suspect funds and from abroad, speak to us about illusory customs unions and projects, attacking the European foundations on which we are building our country.
The head of state also criticized the anti-European parties for not pleading for pulling out the Russian army from Moldova’s territory and against the bans imposed by Russia.
Nicolae Timofti also mentioned the accomplishments of the current government, saying the transformations experienced over the last few years brought a new impetus and visible results in all the areas. “Moldova has changed its face and the hundreds of kilometers of new roads, dozens of rehabilitated public institutions, including nurseries, schools and medical centers, the improved public services and many other things confirm this. This year we started to travel freely in Europe. But there is a risk that we will lose this right if we do not support the pro-European project,” he stated.
Nicolae Timofti concluded by calling on the nation to follow the example of Romania and Ukraine so that we do not find ourselves on an isolated island, between two pro-European neighbors. “Let’s vote together for a European future,” he urged.
