Head of state believes there are chances that political leaders will sign new AEI agreement

Moldova’s President Nicolae Timofti considers there are chances that the leaders of the PLDM, PDM and PL will sign a new agreement on the formation of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI). He reached such a conclusion after he met each of them separately, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on February 16, Nicolae Timofti said that the political confrontation inside the ruling alliance is natural, but it should not go beyond the law and should not affect the work of the state institutions. “We have responsibilities towards the foreign partners and the country. We must realize the importance of the current historical moment. I accepted to become head of state because I support the European integration course. I want peace and quietness for Moldova,” said the head of state. He also said that he met with every leader separately and was assured that they will meet at the negotiating table to look for solutions to the crisis situation. A common meeting of the four may take place next week. Nicolae Timofti said that if the three leaders do not come to terms, he will use the legislation and the Constitution when he will have to accept or reject possible resignations of ministers from the Filat Government. Asked if the criminal cases started against ministers and the inspections carried out by officers of the National Anticorruption Center at the State Main Tax Inspectorate and the Government have a political subtext, the President said that he has confidence in the law enforcement bodies and expects that they will act in accordance with the law.
