The leader of the “Moldova Noastra” Alliance, Serafim Urecheanu, accused President Vladimir Voronin of violating the Constitution. Urecheanu made this statement on Thursday, November 23, following a meeting in which the head of state showed disapproval with the holdup in carrying out legal proceedings. According to the statement uttered by AMN leader in the Parliament’s sitting, “a government which appointed, and further supports and promotes the actual leadership of law enforcement bodies recognizes that its creatures are not able of anything but executing political commands in cases against political opponents of the government party”. In Urecheanu’s opinion, this is why these institutions are tolerated when delaying the examination of citizens’ petitions, as well as of penal and civil cases. “Strangely, President didn’t mention a thing about the abuses committed by law enforcement bodies and courts against his political opponents, this being an aspect untouched by his Press Service. We should get concerned about the fact that Voronin didn’t mention real cases that affect the state’s interests and those of the citizens, diminishing the credibility of the state bodies and affecting the image of the R. of Moldova on the whole”, Urecheanu added. The AMN leader asserts that “the abusive interference of the actual government in the activity of judiciary bodies leads to the fact that the R. of Moldova is convicted in the European Court for Human Rights”. According to his words, the meeting summoned by the head of state represents a violation of the Art.6 of the Constitution of the R. of Moldova, providing for the separation of powers; an open defiance of the Parliament and civil society, proving once again “who is the puppet master of all political cases”. “Reproves” addressed to law enforcement and judiciary bodies are ostentatious actions in order to improve the damaged reputation of the number 1 communist, and in order to mislead the international and national public opinion, the MP stated. Urecheanu urged the current government and President Voronin to respect the Constitution and international commitments, refrain from interfering in the activity of law enforcement and judiciary bodies and promote the judiciary system reform. According to a communiqué of the Presidency, Vladimir Voronin presided a meeting, attended by heads of law enforcement, inspection, and judiciary bodies. The meeting was focused on the problems related to the delay while examining citizens’ petitions, penal and civil cases. The head of state declared that the holdup in examining and solving citizens’ petitions, economic agents’ requests and execution of civil and penal cases became an inadmissible occurrence. During another meeting, President expressed concerns with the proportions of corruption in the educational system. According to the head of state, the Ministry of Education and Youth does not pay the necessary attention to the process of preventing and countering corruption in its subordinated institutions.
