Head of Parliament Andrian Candu invited the three leaders of the protesters - Andrei Nastase, Igor Dodon and Renato Usatyi – to a meeting to discuss their demands and possible solutions to these. The meeting is to take place at 9am on January 29, IPN reports, quoting the legislature’s press service.
Earlier, the three leaders had a discussion with Andrian Candu, where they asked that the Speaker should take all the necessary measures for early parliamentary elections to be initiated. Candu said then that the early elections are not an appropriate solution.
The official announced that a meeting with protesters’ leaders will take place on January 25, but this wasn’t summoned. Then, the leaders of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” said that nobody invited them to discussions. The chairman of the “Our Party” Renato Usatyi said that no dialogue can take place if only Andrian Candu announces the intention to trigger early elections and wants to discuss the actions prior to these.
On a social networking site, the Socialists’ leader Igor Dodon wrote that he was contacted by the Speaker. “I understand that they analyzed the resolution of the protesters and are ready to formulate proposals. I reiterate our firm position – the dissolution of Parliament and early legislative elections, amendment of the Constitution and direct presidential elections, freeing of the state institutions from captivity,” this wrote.
The deadline set by the protesters for the authorities to initiate early parliamentary elections expires on January 28. If this demand is not satisfied, the Platform “Dignity and Truth” will resort to more drastic protest measures, which will be decided in a Civic Forum on January 29.
