The head of the National Anticorruption Directorate of Romania Laura Codruta Kovesi will pay a working visit to Moldova next week. The invitation to her was made by Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici during a telephone discussion with his Romanian counterpart Victor Ponta. According to the Government’s press service, the invitation was made in connection with the anticorruption initiatives announced by the Premier, including those designed to stimulate the reformation of the law enforcement bodies, IPN reports.

“We are very determined to fight corruption at all the levels, while Romania is a positive example for Moldova in this respect. That’s why we consider that namely the direct discussions with the head of the National Anticorruption Directorate and the presentation of efficient practices of fighting corruption used in Romania will encourage our authorities to be more firm in the actions that are to be taken to combat corruption in all the systems,” stated Chiril Gaburici.

While in Chisinau, Laura Codruta Kovesi will meet with the director of the National Anticorruption Center Viorel Chetraru, chairman of the National Integrity Commission Anatolie Donciu, Minister of Justice Vladimir Grosu, Minister of the Interior Oleg Balan and other officials from the field.

Moldova will be also visited soon by a team of experts headed by the ex-president of Georgia Mihail Saakashvili, who is now adviser to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. The team has experience in doing reforms and fighting corruption at all the levels. The visit was agreed during the Moldovan Premier’s visit to Kiev last week. The experts will analyze the situation in the country and will suggest measures that must be taken to fight corruption.
