The director of the Center for Forensic Medicine was detained in the cases concerning the rigged expert reports, fraudulent accounting and corruption in the institution. He is to be escorted to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office to be examined on suspicion of involvement in corruption schemes, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the National Anticorruption Center, prosecutors will ask the court to apply preventive detention in the case of six forensic doctors of the ten held two days ago. Four of them collaborate with the investigation and will be investigated at liberty.
Forensic doctors are accused of demanding payments for distorting the conclusions in expert reports on the cause of death of some people. Payments ranged from 900 to ten thousand lei and were not recorded in the institution's cash registry.
During the searches conducted at the homes of those targeted, tens of thousands of euros and lei, gold jewelry, as well as rough drafts representing fraudulent accounting or the money that did not reach the institution's cash registry were confiscated.
The origin of possessions and money is to be determined during the investigation.
In this context, two criminal cases were initiated - for passive corruption and fraud.
