The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said more visibility is needed in the justice reform actions. The diplomat had a meeting with Minister of Justice Vladimir Grosu with whom he discussed the reformation of the prosecution service, the integrity of judges and prosecutors and other subjects concerning the justice sector reform, IPN reports.

According to Pirkka Tapiola, the EU’s interest in Moldova is for the country to have an equitable, professional and integral legal system, with zero intolerance of corruption, which will lead to higher confidence in justice.

Vladimir Grosu said the key priorities of the Ministry of Justice are to laws concerning the prosecution service and to launch the reformation of this service. “We want very much the MPs to adopt the relevant bill in the current parliamentary session because the reforms in the sectors of justice must be done in parallel. We insist that the judges and prosecutors should be subject to the professional integrity test because they do not differ from the other functionaries,” he said.

The reform in the justice sector is one of the top priorities of the cooperation between the EU and Moldova and represents the basis for effectively developing the country within the Association Agreement with the EU.
