The head of the Drochia local office of the former Shor Party will be tried for complicity in the illegal financing of the party. According to prosecutors, more than 8.1 million lei was used to promote the party's interests, IPN reports.
In 2024, the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office separated this criminal case from the basic criminal case started in 2022. The accused, between July and October 2022, acting as head of the Drochia local organization of the Shor Party, allegedly coordinated the activities of the organization, knowing that the party was financed by an organized criminal group.
In the period, in complicity with the party's leadership, including the deputy heads, the accountant and the couriers responsible for transporting the funds, the defendant presumably contributed to the acceptance of the illicit financing. He provided instructions, information and resources to support the party's activities, such as the transportation and remuneration of people who took part in the protests organized by the Shor Party that was declared unconstitutional in June 2023.
The defendant allegedly accepted through complicity the financing of the party from illicit sources, amounting to over 8.1 million lei, from the organized criminal group. This funding was used to finance the party's activities with the aim of promoting its political interests and gaining power in the state through illegal means.
The defendant did not admit his guilt, and the criminal case was sent for examination on the merits, to the Buiucani Court of Chisinau City. He faces a fine of 57,500 to 92,500 lei or 2 to 7 years’ imprisonment, in both cases with ban on holding particular positions or performing particular activities for a period of 2 to 5 years.
