The Network of Youth Centers of the Republic of Moldova was outfitted with modern IT equipment such as HD TV sets, VR (Virtual Realty) glasses and video game consoles in a move to offer possibilities of digital interaction between young people and youth workers, primarily during the pandemic.

The donation was made in the framework of the Joint Fund for the development of Youth Centers and strengthening participation and civic engagement among young people of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, the Swiss Development Agency and the United Nations Development Program, IPN reports.

The modern equipment will increase the young people’s interest in the activity of youth centers, inviting them to innovative recreational activities, including film screenings, role-playing games and virtual reality experiences.

“The adjustment of spaces and equipment of youth centers is essential for increasing the young people’s interest in the programs and services they offer. The digital resources are the allies of youth workers, which make interaction with young people more dynamic and interesting, in a safe and friendly environment,” said Olga Gordilă-Bobeico, UNFPA Moldova project officer, being quoted in a press release.

The district youth centers and their branches will be able to use the IT equipment at informal activities and social experiments involving young people.

“The outfitting of the youth centers with last-generation equipment helps us to attract more young people to the center and facilitates an interactive and attractive working environment for them,” said the director of the Criuleni Youth Center Eduard Soltanici.

About 30,000 young people primarily aged between 14 and 25 go to the youth centers in the Republic of Moldova yearly. This way, the program aims to further invest in youth-friendly environments, creating attractive opportunities for recreation and leisure time spending in a safe and inclusive environment, avoiding behavioral risks.
