It is in the spirit of democracy to have more pro-Europeans candidates for mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau, the representative of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) Alexandru Trubca said after the government fielded its own candidate for the mayoralty of the capital city. In the absence of a consensus to propose a common candidate, the parties of the right put forward their own candidates for mayor general and say that this way they try to offer a healthy alternative to the current government, IPN reports.

The representative of the PAS said the ruling party didn’t consider the possibility of not fielding a candidate for mayor general of Chisinau and supports the idea of having more pro-European candidates in the race for the mayoralty and of supporting only the pro-European candidate who would reach the runoffs.

“If we look at the history of the local elections, we will see that the right joined forces rather for the runoff vote. From the angle of the spirit of elections and of democracy, it seems right to me for the parties to have their own candidates, to try and persuade the voters and to the support the candidate who gained most of the votes on the right in the runoffs so that the candidate of the left is beaten and a coalition is formed in the CMC to ensure the healthy development of the city,” Alexandru Trubca stated in the program “Secrets of the Power” on JurnalTV channel.

Representatives of parties of the right said they will offer healthy pro-European options to the voters in the upcoming local general elections so as to ensure the democratic development of the city.

“My goal is to offer a European alternative to the citizens of the municipality of Chisinau – a candidate who would combine experience, professionalism with pro-European views and values. We had discussions with a number of parties, but a coalition of all the healthy pro-European forces could not be formed for different reasons,” said the candidate of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” in the local elections Victor Chironda.

“The pro-European voters, of the right, have critical thinking unlike those who vote for pro-Russian parties, who are heavily manipulated and cannot differentiate between truths and untruths. When the people have critical thinking, there are always several offers on the right and the PAS cannot cover all these offers. The people want to have two-three electoral options. That’s why we, together with our mates, decided to found a new political force and to offer an alternative solution and keep a majority of the right in Parliament until the parliamentary elections,” said the representatives of the Party of Change Sergiu Tofilat.

“The way in which the government treats the opposition parties, including the pro-European parties, creates a context that is different from what we had until now and these parties could have been unprepared to discuss with the government. The way in which the government treats us sows that our participation in elections is justified. I don’t know to what extent they can bank on the pro-European opposition to gather the votes they will need to win,” said the representative of the Coalition for Unity and Wellbeing Ion Bulgac.

In the local general elections of November 5, the voters are to choose 898 mayors. The election campaign starts on October 6.
