The producers started to harvest the grapes for export. The yield is very good and the grapes will be exported mainly to Russia and Belarus, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov has told IPN.

The minister said the Moldovan grapes are in demand in the Commonwealth of Independent States and in some of the EU member states. Even if the grapes are exported primarily to Russia and Belarus, attempts will be made to export to Poland too, but large quantities are wanted there.

The grape harvest this year may reach 100,000 tonnes. The quantity will double over the next two-three years as the farmers planted more table sorts than technical ones during the last six-eight years.

The harvesting of grapes for export will continue until November, depending on the sorts, as they get ripe gradually. The vineyards in Moldova occupy over 20,000 hectares.
