The misuse or appropriation of external funds provided to Moldova will be punished harsher. A bill to this effect was approved by the Cabinet on March 12.
Harsher penalties will be imposed for the misappropriation of money from loans, donations, grants and other types of external assistance offered to Moldova. “Our message must be very clear – in Moldova we do not tolerate frauds, including appropriation of external funds. We all know in what situation we are now. We must now regain the external partners’ confidence. That’s why our actions must be very harsh in this regard,” said Prime Minister Pavel Filip.
The amendments provide for detention of 2 to 15 years and ban on holding particular posts or carrying out particular activities for 2 to 8 years as well as a fine of 60,000 to 180 000 lei.
The given amendments were formulated in accordance with the national plan of action for implementing the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU for 2014-2016.
