The necessity of adopting the package of laws to harmonize the regional legislation with the national one and the possibility of de-concentrating the national bodies of power at the level of autonomous unit, taking the wishes of this into account, were discussed by the leaders of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, Bashkan Irina Vlah and President of Moldova Igor Dodon in Comrat, IPN reports.

President Igor Dodon, in a news conference in Comrat, said they debated the special status of Gagauzia that has been discussed for over 25 years, but no decision over this has been yet taken. “I address the inhabitants of ATU Gagauzia. You know my position. I support the adoption of the law in the form agreed with the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia. I remind you that in 2018, the then parliamentary majority adopted the legal provisions in a different form, but I didn’t promulgate them and returned them to the legislature. We today discussed what to do with these legislative proposals and agreed that an updated variant will be transmitted to me and we could propose this as a presidential initiative,” stated President Dodon.

The chairman of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia Vladimir Kyssa said the discussions also centered on the restoration of the working group that consists of deputies of the Assembly and members of Moldova’s Parliament. “We know that the working group on behalf of Parliament was already constituted, but the working group of the People’s Assembly only interrupted its work. We hope that work on this platform will be resumed,” stated the official.

While in Gagauzia, President Dodon inspected the football stadium that is being erected in Comrat. The sports complex is built with the support of the Turkish authorities and almost half of the works have been executed. The investments were projected at about €7 million. The stadium is to be inaugurated this summer. It will have a capacity of 5,000 spectators, while the sports hall that is built in the immediate vicinity will have a seating capacity of about 120.
