Germany’s Hanns Seidel Stiftung is willing to launch new projects in the Republic of Moldova. By its projects, the Foundation supports good governance, democracy, peace, the rule of law and sustainable development, said Hanns Seidel executive director Peter Wetterauf, who had a meeting with Head of Parliament Igor Corman, IPN reports, quoting the legislature’s press service.

Igor Corman welcomed the activities carried out by Hanns Seidel Foundation in Moldova and sought assistance in developing, over the next few years, a pilot project to set up four local information offices, launched by Parliament. The first information office was inaugurated in Comrat in May, with the support of UNDP. The legislative body intends to open the other three offices, in Edinet, Orhei and Leova, in September.

In another development, the Speaker asked the foundation’s representatives to support and encourage Moldova’s civil society so that it actively takes part in the decision-making process and in promoting the country’s European course. “We only begin real work. After the signature of the Association Agreement, we have a lot to do over the next years to modernize the country and to improve the people’s living conditions,” stated Igor Corman.

The representatives of Hanns Seidel Stiftung came to Moldova on a fact-finding visit to identify areas of cooperation with Moldova. The delegation includes the director of the Institute for International Contact and Cooperation Susanne Luther and the head of the Foundation’s Representative Office in Romania and Moldova Daniel Seiberling.
