Hancesti town could be the host of a Sidecar Motocross World Championship. Three experts who will come to Hancesti on October 19 to monitor the Southeast Europe Motocross Championship will assess the local circuit to determine its preparedness to host a world championship.
In a news conference at IPN, mayor of Hancesti Alexandru Botnari said that for organizing a championship of such a level, the circuit in Hancesti must have a laundry, sanitary facilities, connection to electricity, etc. The lack of hotels was earlier another obstacle to holding this championship. Today Hancesti has three hotels that could cope with the flow of tourists who would come to the championship.
“After the October 19 championship, the experts will send the prescription with what should be yet done to the Motocross Federation of Moldova. Afterward, they will come to monitor the works and will then decide if the world championship can be organized in Hancesti or not. By this championship, we want to encourage the young people to play sports to found sports clubs and to make effort to become champions,” stated the mayor.
Secretary general of the Motocross Federation of Moldova Alexandru Briuhov said the Moldovan athletes now do not take part in sidecar motocross championships. Many sportsmen abandoned their careers owing to the lack of money.
A congress of motocross federations will be held in Spain on November 22-23. It will decide where the next Sidecar Motocross World Championship will take place. In Moldova, such a championship was staged for the last time in 1982, on the circuit of Schinoasa area in Chisinau. Now it could be held in Hancesti.
