Half a million people caught COVID-19 during two years of pandemic in Moldova

In two years of the declaring of a global pandemic by the World Health Organization, the number of cases of COVID-19  exceeded 453.8 million worldwide, while the death toll from the novel coronavirus rose to over 6 million. Moldova so far has got over 506,000 cases of COVID-19 and 11,319 deaths from the virus, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Health said the number of new cases of COVID-19 has decreased. During February 28 – March 6, the infection rate was 100 cases per 100,000 people, down over 39% compared with a week before.

A number of 24 public health facilities have now wards for patients with COVID-19. The daily average of persons admitted to the hospital during February 28 – March 6 was 776, down 37% on a week before.

The national coverage with one dose of COVID-19 in Moldova is 31%, while with two doses is over 30%.

The WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic on March 11, 2020. More than 114,243 cases of COVID-19 and 4,023 deaths had been reported by then since December 31, 2019. Four cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed in Moldova by that day.
