An obstetrician-gynecologist of a private hospital of Chisinau will be tried for violating the rules and methods of providing medical care out of negligence, which caused the death of a woman patient and then of her child who was traumatized at birth, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, on July 25, 2012, during over an hour of the coming of a woman with the first signs of delivery, the doctor didn’t ensure the supervision of labor and intervened late to make a Cesarean section. As a result, the newborn baby suffered serious brain damage that caused invalidity. In three years, the girl died.
The conclusion of the Legal Medicine Center of Chisinau says the doctors are not to blame. The prosecutors ordered a similar analysis to the National Institute of Legal Medicine of Bucharest, which concluded that the girl died as a result of final complications of the injuries suffered at birth and there is a direct connection between the improper medical care and the consequences that led to the child’s death. The prosecutors charged the doctor and banned this from leaving the place of residence.
Under the Penal Code, such an offense carries a penalty of up to three years in jail with (or without) ban on holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of two to five years.
