“Guardian” of Soroca Fortress Nicolae Bulat died

Historian and museographer Nicolae Bulat, director of the Soroca Museum of History and Ethnography, passed away as a result of disease. The country’s administration addressed condolences to the family. “It is an irrecoverable loss for the lovers of history and for all those who knew him,” says the obituary signed by President Maia Sandu, IPN reports.

“In time, Nicolae Bulat became one of the most famous experts in the history of Soroca and a promoter of the Romanian language and national ideals. He is considered one of the best guides in Moldova, who is known as the “guardian” of Soroca Fortress. With his involvement and his contribution, the Soroca Museum of History and Ethnography, together with the Soroca District Council, in 2012 implemented a project to restore the medieval monument “Soroca Fortress”. He is the author of a number of publications and his name is among the top 1,000 intellectuals of Europe according to the assessment of the Cambridge International Biographical Center,” runs the obituary.

“He devoted all his time and energy to the Soroca Fortress, during over 40 years transforming it into a place in which you inhale history, love for the country and the nation. We will remember his professional and human qualities with warmth and will keep our gratitude for the bright trace left in the history of our country,” reads the message of Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.

For his work, Nicolae Bulat was awarded the Order of Labor Glory (2013) and the Oder of the Star of Romania in the rank of Officer (2000). In 2021, on the 30th anniversary of the Republic of Moldova, he became Knight of the Order of the Republic.
