Moldovan citizens, including those from the Transnistrian region, will continue to be able to watch the public channels Moldova 1 and Moldova 2, as well as 10 other channels from the national audiovisual space, at no extra cost. The government has approved the opinion on a legislative initiative on ensuring the population's access to TV programs in the national audiovisual space, IPN reports.

At present, the state enterprise Radiocommunications is operating the National Multiplex A, a network that allows free reception of 12 TV channels. It covers about 99% of the population and is essential, especially for households that cannot afford a pay-TV subscription or do not have access to pay-TV networks.

"This measure is particularly vital for vulnerable people, for whom free digital TV is the main source of accurate information," said Deputy Prime Minister Dumitru Alaiba, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization.

According to the draft, based on the data of the National Agency for the Regulation of Electronic Communications and Information Technology of the Republic of Moldova 1, out of the total of about 959 thousand households (excluding the Transnistrian region), about 666 thousand households are connected to various pay-TV subscriptions.

Respectively, 293 thousand households are those that potentially receive the MUX A signal free of charge. Taking into account the estimated 211 thousand households on the left side of the Dniester, the MUX A audience constitutes an estimated 504 thousand households.
