The groups of experts that are to draft the political agreement on the formation of the ruling alliance and the government program are to begin work today, July 14. Such an agreement was reached by the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), the Democratic Party (PDM) and the Liberal Party (PL) in a meeting held in the evening of July 13. In the same meeting, the three leaders discussed the mechanism of choosing the head of state, IPN reports.

“It is an ordinary stage of the negotiation process. I can say that we made progress in this process. Moreover, the Democrat Party proposed that in parallel with the main negotiators, groups of experts will work to draft the government program and the agreement on the formation of the alliance,” said the leader of the PDM Marian Lupu, noting that this way they will manage to swiftly form the ruling alliance and to invest the Government.

The leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat said after the meeting that the discussions were positive and the election of the head of state was one of the topics discussed. “We must agree exactly the method of choosing the head of state. We must not enter a new political crisis in eight months after overcoming the current one. There are not many options. We are to decide whether to look for votes in Parliament to elect the head of state by 61 votes or to amend the Constitution by a referendum so that the President is elected by a simple majority of votes,” he stated.

Vlad Filat noted that they also discuss the distribution of posts, but this issue is not the decisive one. “The most important thing is to agree a functional parliamentary majority. This means that we must ensure the balance needed in governance and also the comfort needed by each participant, each party,” he said.

The Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu said the discussions are held in a calm atmosphere. “We agreed that the groups of experts will start work to draft the agreement and then the government program so that we have a Government by the end of this month, if our negotiation partners are sincere. In politics, sincerity is rare. There are sincere people and good actors,” he stated, adding that the PL insists on appointing a European prosecutor and discussions on the issue are held, but they are to identify a mechanism.
