The mayor, a deputy mayor and seven local councilors of Bacioi commune of Chisinau municipality defected from the Liberal Party to the National Unity Party (PUN). The announcement was made in a news conference at IPN on February 16. The local elected officials argued that now only the PUN can put into practice the ideal of union of all the Romanians.
Cornel Pintea, chairman of the PUN Chisinau Organization, said the party he represents, together with the party’s president of honor, ex-President of Romania Traian Basescu, launched a broad process of constituting a force that can ensure Moldova’s union with Romania. The bringing together of all the unionist forces within one party is a first step. “They joined our party proudly, with all their heart and with good faith,” stated Corneliu Pintea.
Vitalie Selari, mayor of Bacioi commune, said the citizens of the Republic of Moldova should confirm without delay their affiliation to the Romanian nation as this is the only solution for solving the problems faced by the people who live between the Prut and Nistru rivers. “We took this step honorably. We assumed overall responsibility for the taken decision. We joined the PUN because all the hopes of the unionists are now aimed at Traian Basescu and this political party,” said the mayor of Bacioi.
Local councilor Mircea Ciubotaru said the decision to join the PUN was taken after he analyzed the political situation and ascertained that this is not a party of promises, but is a party of real deeds.
