A group of activists tried to tear down a fence surrounding the constuction site for a church in the square outside the Kentford Building. Police intervened within a short time and thwarted the attempt, Info-Prim Neo reports. Maia Laguta, the leader of an NGO called Salvgardare, claimed that the builder, who obtained a 50-year-long lease contract for that site, bribed municipal officials and that his true goal is not to build a church, but a “mausoleum” for the Municipality's rich. Lawyer Ilie Rotaru, a member of the group, said that everything must be done in accordance to the Law, and that people should know who the real owner is. “I came here, because the Mayor stated that there are no trees in the area, making it possible to build the church. This is a park that has been forsaken by the City Hall and those who rent the land, and believe that anything can be built on it. As soon as something is erected on this site, immediately, within a year, the field will be privatized; I guarantee you, since these is how things are done in the Municipality”, said the lawyer. The construction of the church in Kentford has been suspended for an indefinite period. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca agreed with the builder to refrain from any actions until the issue is discussed within a set of public debates in the near future.
