After January 1, 2025, it is not clear whether the transit of gas through Ukraine from Russia will be allowed for the left bank of the Nistru, where about 300,000 citizens live, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said in a TV show on TVR Moldova,  IPN reports.

Igor Grosu noted the wave of criticism aroused by the visit of Energy Minister Victor Parlicov to the Russian gas company Gazprom in St. Petersburg. "Now we have to communicate. And if anyone gets the impression that no one in this world, other bigger powers communicate, I inform you that the Americans, the English, the French, and the Ukrainians communicate with the Russian Federation. And the Moldovans must also communicate. Why? Because we have about 300,000 citizens on the left bank of the Nistru, we have a deadline – January 1, 2025, after which there is no clarity as to whether the transit of gas via Ukraine from the Russian Federation will be allowed and will reach the left bank of the Nistru,” stated the official.

The Speaker stressed that about 300,000 citizens live in the Transnistrian region. The population on the right bank of the Nistru consumes electricity produced by the Kuchurgan plant based on gas, which is why it is right for Minister Parlicov to go and have talks with Gazprom.

Igor Grosu added that the gas transit issue must be analyzed and discussed as "you can't stay at home and say I'm not interested."

Moldovagaz on Tuesday asked the National Agency for Energy Regulation to increase the gas charge paid by consumers by about 40% from December 1. This means an increase of about 4 lei per cubic meter. The Agency’s meeting was supposed to take place on Wednesday, but was postponed to Friday.
