Grigore Vieru became post-mortem honorific citizen of Chisinau

Departed poet Grigore Vieru was offered the title of “An honorific citizen of Chisinau” post-mortem. The Chisinau councilors voted unanimously for such a decision on Tuesday, February 17, Info-Prim Neo reports. Leader of the People’s Christian Democratic Party faction (PPCD) Alexandru Corduneanu said it was a big mistake that Grigore Vieru was not awarded this title while he was alive, and this mistake must not be repeated toward other values of our people. Corduneanu proposed the local councilors to insert into the order of the day the idea of conferring the title of honorific citizen to man of culture Valentin Mandacanu and writer Dumitru Matcovschi at the next sitting of the Chisinau Council.
