“Greetings, Chisinau!” Festival opened with folk music and dances

The event to open the Festival “Greetings, Chisinau!”, which is devoted to the 587th anniversary of the first attestation of the city, brought together guests and residents of the capital city to promote the national culture and traditions. The participants in the festival could see a performance of folk music and dances and could get acquainted with craftspeople from different corners of the country, who exhibited their works at a fair on the pedestrian street “Eugen Doga”, IPN reports.

The exhibits include sheep skin, musical instruments made from clay, leather products. Dumitru Daraban, who is an expert in skin processing, started this activity in 1988. He earlier worked in trade, but then took over the trade of his father and his grandfather. He now makes wallets, men’s and women’s belts, whips and other things from cattle skin. As motifs, he uses Dacian-Romanian symbols and flowers.

Sergiu Chetrari, a teacher of the arts school of Mereni village of Anenii Noi district, came to Chisinau with musical instruments made from clay, including ocarinas and flutes. The craftsman has made such items for ten years. He also brought clay toys – birds and fishes.

Anatolie Gogu from Balti has made hats from sheep skin collected form people for about 28 years. To the fair, he brought hats of different forms and colors, primarily black and gray.

In the opening ceremony, mayor general Ion Ceban said the third edition of the festival involves extraordinary people. The team of the City Hall, the singers, people of culture who will come there will be able to share their emotions and feelings and to enjoy the event.

On Saturday, July 15, the municipal chamber orchestra “Camerata Chisinau”, directed by Cristian Spătaru, will give a classical and pop music concert that will feature soloists Natalia Tanasyichuk, Igor Țurcanu, Igor Podgoreanu. The music of the illustrious composer Eugen Doga could also be heard.
