Greens demand liquidating waste dump near Purcel Mine. ELECTIONS 2015

Members and supporters of the Green Ecologist Party of Moldova and residents of Bubuieci commune of Chisinau municipality protested against the storing of waste at the dump near Purcel Mine in the morning of June 5.

Contacted by IPN, the Greens’ candidate for the post of mayor general of Chisinau municipality Anatolie Prohnitski said the waste dump near Purcel Mine is an ecological bomb and the storage of waste there is an ecological crime committed under the guidance of Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca.

The protesters demanded liquidating the waste dump and continuing the negotiations with the authorities and locals so as to take the garbage from the municipality to the special platform in Tantareni. They also asked holding an international contest to select a company speculated in waste processing.

Anatolie Prohnitski noted that more than 2 million tonnes of garbage have been taken to the waste dump near Purcel Mine since 2001 until now. The environment and phreatic waters are considerably polluted with heavy metals and toxic substances emitted by the decaying garbage.
