A national system for monitoring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions will be instituted in the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports, quoting the regulations concerning the functioning of the new system approved by the Cabinet.

The national system for monitoring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions will include a number of central specialized bodies of the public administration, central administrative authorities or authorities managed by ministries and several state-run enterprises.

Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Nicolae Ciubuc said the goal is to create the legal and institutional framework needed to monitor all the greenhouse gas emissions and to assess the progress made in fulfilling the national and international commitments concerning emissions.

The document also specifies the procedure for collecting, processing and reporting data on greenhouse gas emissions to the secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which was ratified by Moldova as well.
